Ouija Board named Horse of the Year....
Ouija Board has been crowned Horse of the Year by The Racehorse Owners Association and Racing Post. The much celebrated Mare, who ends her career on Sunday in Hong Kong, was given the title after a poll of votes from ROA members and Racing Post readers.
She was also named Older Horse of 2006.
She had become the first horse to claim the Cartier Horse of the Year title twice back in November of this year.
The five-year-old mare reclaimed the title that she won in 2004 following a hat trick of Group 1 wins this season. Ed Dunlop successfully produced Ouija Board to win the Prince of Wales's Stakes, the Vodaphone Nassau Stakes and most recently the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
Ouija Board has not been unfamiliar to injury. Back in 2004 she spent the majority of the summer off recovering after throwing a splint and later from a small stress fracture to her near fore cannon-bone.
Dunlop praised the patience and faith of owner Lord Derby for allowing him to carry on with her after the opening months of her campaign were blighted by injury problems. Lord Derby told the Racing Post after it was decided to keep her in training: "Luckily, (trainer) Ed Dunlop has some superb facilities at his Stables, including a spa (ECB) and swimming pool. These facilities, along with his wonderful staff, will help speed her recovery."
ECB would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Ed Dunlop and all those involved in Ouija Boards training and especially would like to wish her every success in her retirement.
