ECB Spa helps keep nine-year old Alcazar in Listed Winning Form

November 2004

Alcazar, a nine-year old bay gelding, trained by Hughie Morrison, has remained in winning form for the 2004 flat season. His regular trips to the ECB Spa at The Centre for Natural Equine Health, Gloucestershire, aiding his top-class race preparation.

Hughie describes Alcazar as, “a horse with a serious engine, but is a bit brittle and you can’t race him too often…It’s hard to keep him fit and well all through the year.”

Previous to the 2003 racing season Alcazar had cracked his pelvis three times, had a broken bone in a hind leg and had two strained tendons. However, yet again in 2004, he has returned in style to a bundle of victories and achievement in prestigious races, which include:

1st on the 3rd November 2004 at Musselburgh in the Listed Totesport Willie Park Stakes

3rd on the 24th October 2004 at Longchamp in the Group 1 Prix du Royal-Oak

2nd on the 13th May 2004 at York in the Group 2 Emirates Airline Yorkshire Cup (Class A)

1st on the 31st May 2004 at Nottingham in the Listed HBLB

Hughie Morrison commented on Alcazars performance after his second appearance in the Group 1 Prix du Royal-Oak, Longchamp, “We had a good go and were unlucky not to hold second place. Last year, he was ridden to take a place behind Westerner and this time we were trying to win. Maybe, that cost us second place. But still, he ran a splendid race and it wasn’t a bad race for a nine-year old…and all being well, Alcazar will remain in training next year.”

Alcazar still enjoys preventative treatments at The Centre. These can be a beneficial therapy during racing breaks and as part of horses’ preparation and training for racing.

ECB Spa treatments have kept Alcazar in full training throughout the 2004 flat season, finishing, as he started, with an impressive win in a Listed race.
